Thanks for this tutorial. I appreciate how you took time to really go into specifics about techniques. How is painting on hot pressed paper? I am planning to try some flash but am thinking the smoother paper might be easier on my rapidograph. But I'm not sure if the hot pres. will be OK for rest of the process, fades etc. My plan is to just start with b&g, no color, using rapidograph to line and India ink to shade.

I prefer nib pens using the same black (liquid acrylic) I will be painting with over sharpies so the black lines match rest of the painting. Nibs also promote taking your time and feel more like tattooing to me because you have to be more careful about the angle and how much pressure you apply.

I really like how smooth the extra fine sharpy glides. But idk if it’s my paper I’m using or what, but they bleed like a mf.

Great Video my guy.. I'm strongly considering becoming a tattoo artist, but I'm currently a photo realism artist, and my medium is Colored Pencil. I don't have any of the typical sailor tattoo's, or pinups, or anything like that, simply because thats not what I like to do. I prefer photo realistic portraits, and so that's all I really have. If I may ask; should I draw all those things for my portfolio when I present it to a Tattoo shop? Or should I just stick with what I got?

Your shading with the ink is badass. I watched your spitshading video, but the way you pull it out and push it back in these is super cool, some in regular speed would be amazing. Do you use any ox-gall or additives to your water? Also, wetting it at the beginning, was that just to stain it or does it also serve a purpose for the flow of your inks and paints?

Im having trouble doing flash mainly roses do they use water color? What do you use for the outlines?

i'm not sure you mentioned but do you use syntheic or organic hairs on your brushes?

Can I use regular pen for stencil on skin and tattoo over it ? Or can I catch ink poisoning!?

I find the Sharpies bleed so much, especially comparing the Ultra Fine to other markers of the same line weight. They also bleed through the page when you're just trying to work through a sketchbook. I've switched to the Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen 1.5 - it's nearly as thick as the Sharpie but it doesn't bleed though pages. The only downside is alcohol-based Copic markers cause them to bleed so you need to stick with watercolor.

Using cheap materials can be discouraging but knowing your working with limited stuff then mastering it can make one a better artist.

+dqtattoos I had a few quick questions, I've been researching tattoo apprenticeships and stumbled up on your videos concerning it. However I recently stumbled on another Tattoo artist, where he says that when you ask for an apprenticeship, they will ask you a few questions such as "why?" In the video he gives out a scenario on one of these questions such as, "who is your favorite artist?" (other than a tattoo artist, such as Leonardo Da Vinci) In your case when you started out, did you ever faced those beginner questions? This individual also mentions in his video, that you should have some knowledge of the Tattoo history/culture. In your case did you studied a bit on the history/culture before you got in as an apprentice?
